The Metropolitan King County Council voted Tuesday to prohibit federal immigration enforcement from using non-public county property. The new ordinance prevents U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from using county-owned and controlled spaces, such as garages, parking lots, and vacant lots, as processing locations or staging areas for operations. The controversial vote proceeded after protesters disrupted the council meeting earlier in the afternoon.
